The Mahindra S 101 compact SUV has been spied testing again by Motor Vikatan in Tirupur, outside Coimbatore. This is the same vehicle that was spotted testing outside Chennai in the beginning of the month. As we had said before, the car is heavily camouflaged and is missing major bits of bodywork suggesting that the design is still being worked upon.
The S101 will be a sub-four metre crossover specifically designed to take on the EcoSport and will be the Indian SUV major’s entry into the rapidly expanding segment. The crossover has been spied testing in tandem with a Scorpio and from the pictures it is visible that the S101 has almost the same proportions as the EcoSport. Other noticeable features include a large rear window, horizontal tail lamps and a decent amount of headroom for all passengers.
The S 101 will be a front-wheel drive car and will be powered by a new set of engines being developed jointly by Mahindra and its Korean partner Ssangyong. This development also includes new five- and six-speed gearboxes.
