Mahindra’s new “high-end luxury SUV” is none other than the rebadged Ssangyong Rexton. The Korean SUV entered into a new generation last year, and its second coming to the country will be with the Mahindra badging instead of Ssangyong.
The all-new Rexton is better looking, more premium, and has been improved all-round compared to its predecessor. There is a more masculine appeal to the Rexton with increased dimension to be on the same page as the highly successful SUVs in the segment such as the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. The Korean-based SUV has large headlamps, chrome accents and flared body creases for added brawl. It is a proper seven-seater and has enough cabin space owing to the long wheelbase of 2,865mm.
Under the hood is a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel motor producing 183bhp of power and 420Nm of turning force. Transmission is a six-speed manual but an automatic is also on the cards.
When launched, the Rexton is expected to be priced somewhere around Rs 20 – 25 lakhs. It will become the new flagship for the Indian carmaker and will sit above the XUV500.
