Mahindra Reva’s eye magnet at the Auto Expo, the Halo electric sports car, is headed to the UK. The company will be launching the e20 in Europe by the end of 2014 to tap into the bottom end of the electric car market. The Halo might make it to the UK markets by 2016.
The first electric concept two-seater sports car by Mahindra was on display to gauge feedback. Although it attracted a lot of attention our market hasn’t matured for a product like this, and it is more viable to export it once it’s put into production. The car reportedly has two variants, the high-end variant features a range of 200kms on full charge and the other one can do about 150kms. The premium variant can attain a top speed of 160kmph and do the sprint to100kmph from standstill in a little under eight seconds. There is no information about the base model’s top speed or acceleration though.
Designed and made in India, the Halo also has advanced safety features, and a dual touch screen infotainment system and high end connectivity. Reva’s first product for the British market was the G-Wiz, but has been on a sabbatical from the market for about two years. The e20 will mark the company’s re-entry into Great Britain and in its second stint as Mahindra Reva, it comes with more promise on the product range.
