The Mahindra Reva E2O compact electric vehicle has been spotted in testing without any camouflage by our friends at Motoroids.com on the streets of New Delhi. Dubbed the E20 (E-two-oo – Mahindra’s policy to ensure that every one of its vehicle’s name ends with an O) it is expected that the car will be launched sometime in November before Diwali.
The E2O is a two-door four-seater car. It will be powered by a 29kw electric motor (39.4bhp) that uses 48-volt compact lithium ion batteries. The company had earlier decided to launch the EV with lead-acid batteries but has now scrapped the plan in favour of leasing the batteries to the buyers; making it a part of the running cost of the car. The E2O will have a range of around 160km and a top speed of 105kmph.
The car is likely to cost Rs five to six lakh and will be the first product to roll out of Mahindra Reva’s new green facility outside Bengaluru. The new car seems like good value for money, when you consider rising fuel prices. However, EV technology in the country is still in a nascent stage and this will make sure that Mahindra has its work cut out with regard to selling the E2O. Just like the current Reva, this car will also be exported to global markets immediately after its India launch.
