Mahindra has reopened bookings for the all-wheel drive version of its flagship SUV the XUV500. Just over a year ago the Indian manufacturer launched the SUV across the four major metros and was instantly inundated with 8000 bookings and stopped taking orders for the SUV altogether to meet demand.
Mahindra then reopened the bookings for the front-wheel drive version in the beginning of this year in two phases and got a total of 25000 orders within ten days. Now Mahindra has boosted the capacity of its Chakan plant to such an extent that it will soon export the SUV to countries like Spain and Italy. This expanded capacity has also allowed Mahindra to reopen bookings for the all-wheel drive version across the country.Customers can confirm a booking for the SUV by paying an amount of Rs 40,000.
The XUV500 is available with a 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel engine which produces 140bhp and 330Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a six speed manual transmission that drives either the front or all wheels depending on the model.
