Mahindra and Mahindra, owners of the Korean car maker Ssangyong, have recalled the Rexton SUV in India. There seems to be an issue with the drivetrain in cars that have been built in or before September 2014 for which a voluntary recall has been issued as per SIAM guidelines.
Interestingly, the exact cause of the issue has not been mentioned. Mahindra says that they will have to inspect Rexton SUVs to find out if there is a loss of torque in the rear driveshaft. Mahindra will contact the affected customers individually.
Mahindra calls it ‘proactive inspection’ exercise which will be carried out free and any replacements required after the inspection will also be done free of cost. The Ssangyong Rexton is the largest SUV in the Mahindra portfolio and is priced between Rs 21 lakh to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
