After shelving plans to enter the American market with the Pik-Up, utility car maker Mahindra has now opened a technical centre in the city of Troy near Detroit, Michigan. This is a significant move by Mahindra in regards with their plans to have a global presence.
Speaking on the development, Rajan Wadhera, chief executive officer for technology and product development for Mahindra’ automotive and farm equipment sectors, said the new office operated by Mahindra Engineering Services is the first automotive-oriented technical center the Mahindra Group has opened outside of India.
Mahindra has currently employed 100 personnel of which over 60 per cent are US nationals hired locally. Mahindra hopes to double the number of employees to 100 in the next six to eight months. The company has got GM, Navistar, Volvo and Bentley to sign up for their technical services.
