The second day and final leg of the Mahindra off-road challenge saw the participants tackle three major challenges at the specially laid out circuit at Miramar in Goa.
The proceedings began with the ‘Rock the Flags’ challenge which was then followed by the ‘Tricky Trailer’ obstacle. With the afternoon sun bearing down heavily on the multitude of Thars, the day’s most awaited challenge, the ‘Demolition Derby’, got underway.
This unique obstacle saw the participants descend a slope of wrecked vehicles within a stipulated time of 10 minutes. They were allowed to use external help as well as winches to complete the task. Entries were picked from lots and with each team’s descent, the nature of the course changed pushing them to use innovative methods to complete the task.
The last challenge of the day and the competition was the ‘Make Your Path’ obstacle which saw the participants construct a bridge from wooden logs to help their vehicles cross a large ditch dug for the purpose.
After two days of gruelling conditions, wet soil, sweat, dirt, diesel, Maxxis Bighorn tyres and rain, Bangalore off-road Development Authority (B.O.D.A) emerged victorious with 168 points ahead of team Tamil Nadu Off-Roaders and V5 Off-Roaders from Coorg who scored 156 and 151.5 points respectively.
We were excited to witness this first of its kind challenge in India and hope that the next edition will be even bigger, crazier and obviously bring out some of the best Mahindra Thars from across the country.
