Mahindra, a popular name in the utility vehicle segment in the country has clarified that they will not be introducing more SsangYong products in India anytime soon. The announcement in this regard was made by Mahindra and Mahindra Executive Director, Pawan Goenka at the recently held 56th Annual ACMA (Automotive Component Manufacturers Association) Convention. This also means that India will not get the internationally popular Tivoli SUV, thereby clearing speculations surrounding its launch.
Pawan Goenka also stated that acquisition of SsangYong was not a part of company’s plans to bring more of its products to India. Though Mahindra has no plans for the Tivoli here, it is believed to be working on a new compact SUV which will be based on the Tivoli's X100 platform. Though details about the new vehicle is not known for now, we believe it could either be powered by the company’s 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options and its launch might happen towards the end of 2017.
The Tivoli SUV gathered a lot of attention when it was last showcased at this year's Auto Expo event in the country. If launched, it would have competed strongly against the Hyundai Creta, Honda BR-V and Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza. However, due to low sales of the SsangYong Rexton in India, the company might have decided against introducing the Tivoli here.
