Mahindra line-up for the Auto Expo 2016 revealed

The ongoing diesel vehicle ban in Delhi and NCR may have put brakes on Mahindra’s growth prospects, but the brand is hardly fazed. For the Auto Expo 2016, Mahindra will have a packed show floor including locally developed models as well as vehicles from Korean automaker SsangYong.

While Mahindra will have its own share of production as well as customised vehicles to showcase, SsangYong will have the Tivoli as their showstopper. Launched in January last year, the Tivoli is SsangYong’s take on the burgeoning compact crossover space. As a result, this new model is about the same size as the Hyundai Creta or the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. While it certainly looks good and will probably come with a load of features to match its rivals, Mahindra will need to price it well to make it click with the buyers.

Another important Auto Expo-bound model is the Mahindra KUV100. Set to be launched on January 15th, the KUV100 will be Mahindra’s most affordable offering and will be seen competing with the likes of Hyundai Grand i10, Ford Figo, Maruti Swift and even the Chevrolet Beat. While it not only looks rugged and striking, the KUV100 will be highly efficient as well, thanks to an all-aluminium 1.2-litre series of engines.

Mahindra will also be reviving the Quanto at the Auto Expo by unveiling a heavily upgraded model. Caught on test several times up till now, the upgraded model will feature revised headlamps with DRLs, KUV100-like front grille as well as new alloy wheels for the top-end trim. Inside, the cabin will get revamped beige upholstery, new steering wheel design and a touchscreen infotainment system.

Powering the new Quanto will be a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder mHAWK 80 turbocharged diesel engine that develops around 85bhp and 230Nm. As for gearbox options, a 5-speed manual will be offered as standard while the added convenience of an AMT gearbox will be available as option.   

Besides these, the 2016 Auto Expo will also play host to a bunch of customised models based on vehicles including the Scorpio, XUV500 and the TUV300.
