Widening options for potential XUV500 customers, Mahindra has silently launched the XUV500 automatic in Delhi at a starting price of Rs 14.51 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi). The automatic has been offered only in front-wheel drive configuration in W6, W8 and W10 variants.
In view of the recent 2.0-litre diesel engine ban in Delhi, Mahindra has downsized its 2.2-litre engine to 1.99-litre which claims to generate similar power figure of 138bhp and 320Nm of torque. The SUV’s downsized engine comes mated to a six-speed automatic transmission which is developed by its Japanese component manufacturer Aisin.
The newly introduced automatic variants continue to be offered with similar features as offered in the 2.2-litre model which is sold across the country. The W10 variant also continues to be offered with cruise control, seven-inch display with offline GPS-guided navigation, Bluetooth, USB and iPod connectivity, automatic headlights, climate control, start-stop button, tyre pressure monitoring, Mahindra’s Blue Sense system and rain-sensing wipers.
The W6, W8 and W10 variants are priced at Rs 14.51 lakh, Rs 15.94 lakh and Rs 17.32 lakh respectively. Given the recent NGT’s petition to extend the 2.0-litre diesel ban in Kerala and other states, it is to be seen if this downsized engine will also be introduced in more states. Sometime later this year, Mahindra might also introduce a 2.0-litre petrol engine option in the Scorpio and the XUV500.
