The new Mahindra XUV500 facelift has been launched in Mumbai at Rs 11.12 lakh (ex-showroom). Though the new XUV500 is mechanically identical to its predecessor, it gets a host of cosmetic updates and a longer feature list, which improve the seven-seater SUV’s value-for-money quotient.
The front of the new XUV500 gets a major revamp, thanks to a new chrome grille and projector headlamps. It also gets redesigned fog lamps with chrome bezels and LED strips, similar to the ones in the new Scorpio. The hood of the new XUV500 now gets creases which give it a muscular look and also comes with hydraulic assist to make it easier to open up the bonnet. The side profile of the car shows off the new 17-inch alloy wheels, while the windows now get chrome linings.
Inside, the XUV500 gets a multifunction steering wheel, aluminium pedals, new ambient lighting and new illuminated scuff plates. The dashboard gets a dual-tone design which integrates a seven-inch touchscreen with Mahindra’s BlueSense App. It also comes with leather upholstery and a new smart key.
Mechanically, the new XUV500 is similar to the previous car, and comes with the 2.2-litre mHawk 140 diesel engine. Delivering 140bhp and 330Nm of torque through a six-speed transmission, the engine sends power to the front wheels in the 2WD variants and to all four wheels in the AWD variants.
The new XUV500 is available in seven paint schemes – sunset orange, pearl white, opulent purple, volcano black, Tuscan red, dolphin grey and modust silver. The XUV500 rivals other SUVs like the Nissan Terrano, Tata Safari Storme and the Tata Aria.
