Mahindra has launched the Ssangyong Rexton for Rs 17.67 lakh onwards, ex-showroom, Mumbai. The Rexton will be available at Mahindra dealers for the moment but with a separate sales bay at the dealerships.
The third-generation Rexton offers a load of advanced features like active rollover protection, a touchscreen sat-nav system with steering-mounted audio controls, etc in addition to features that are expected from the segment like ABS with EBD, two airbags, a 60:40 split-folding second row, alloy wheels, a four-wheel drive system, and an automatic gearbox.
The Rexton will be available in two variants, the RX5 will act as the base model and will retail for Rs 17.67 lakh, ex-showroom, Mumbai. This will net you a five-speed manual gearbox with Torque-on-demand all-wheel drive. The diesel engine displaces 2696cc from five cylinders and is turbocharged to generate 162bhp and 340Nm. It is rated at 12.4kmpl as per the ARAI test cycle.
The top-end RX7 will retail for Rs 19.67 lakh, ex-showroom, Mumbai. The extra two lakhs will net you the same engine but with 184bhp and 402Nm. The automatic gearbox also has five speeds like the manual, but there are buttons on the steering wheel to shift gears. It is rated at 11.18kmpl over the ARAI test cycle. Features that you get over the RX5 are an electrically operated sunroof, speed-sensitive power steering, an electrically adjustable driver's seat with three memory functions, automatic headlamps and wipers, cruise control, an electronic dimmer for the inside rear-view mirror, leather upholstery (the RX5 is upholstered in fabric), ESP, ASR, active rollover protection, hill descent control and side airbags.
The Rexton is available in four paint shades: white, silver, black and purple. Mahindra has stated that the car will have badging that states "Ssangyong Rexton by Mahindra". The company is planning on selling 500 units a month for now. The car has 22 per cent localisation.
