Three years after having launched the Bolero pickup, Mahindra & Mahindra launched their ‘next generation’ pickup - the Genio. It is a stylish and comfortable LCV and a new concept in the segment. It is designed for the educated, new-age Indian businessman and trader. The Genio has a payload capacity of 1.2 tonne, but considering the Indian market the LCV has been tested under various geographical conditions with a higher payload.
The Genio houses an efficient 2489cc, 4-cylinder mDI CRDe engine which produces over75bhp giving a mileage akin to the Bolero pickup. The Genio BS3 variant is priced at 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom Navi Mumbai) and the BS4 variant will cost Rs. 15,000 to 20,000 more. The Genio is based on the same platform as the Xylo’s: the Ingenio platform. This platform supports the Genio with superior styling, best-in-segment fit and finish and improved handling.
The Genio has car like gear shift, ride quality of a UV, wider and bigger windscreen and doors and split back glass for better ventilation. Dr. Pawan Goenka, President, Automotive & Farm Equipment Sectors, Mahindra said, “The Bolero pickup is a workhorse while the Genio will define the image of an individual’s business.” A CNG variant and a double cam are in the offing.
The Mahindra plant in Chakan will assemble over 2000 Genios every month. In six months, the Genio will be exported to the overseas markets. It is available across 70 dealerships and from mid February it will be available across Mahindra dealerships pan India.
