Mahindra has launched the KUV100 NXT in India at Rs 4.39 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). It is available across five number of variants, two engine options as well as eight colour options including two dual tone schemes.Â
The KUV100 NXT is the smallest vehicle that Mahindra makes and is the automaker’s candidate for the highly competitive B-segment. It is one of the few vehicles in the segment to currently offer a micro SUV styling.Â
The most significant change in terms of design is a completely new face for the vehicle. It comprises a vertically stacked design for the overall appearance. The headlamps have got a new design while the front bumper has moved from a conventional design to a sportier one to give the car a crossover appearance. You get a new design for the alloy wheels/wheel covers while at the rear the tail lamps have become wider and now come with silver inserts.Â
Inside, you can have the KUV100 NXT as a six-seater or you can order for a five-seater vehicle across both fuel options. The overall layout of the cabin has not changed but you now get a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the top spec variants in place of the 2-DIN unit that was offered in the outgoing model. Mahindra also got rid of the multi-dial design for the air-con system and has replaced it with a minimalistic button style setup.Â
Powering, the KUV100 NXT is the mFalcon all-aluminium 1.2-litre series engines. The petrol powered mFalcon G80 unit develops 82bhp/114Nm while the diesel mFalcon D75 engine produces 77bhp/ 190Nm. These engines are paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.
As we have said earlier, the KUV100 NXT is the India automaker’s competitor for the highly competitive B-segment. Here it takes on the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10, Toyota Etios Liva, Tata Bolt and the Ford Figo. You also have it taking on some variants of the Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Hyundai Xcent. However, in terms of pure body style, it also takes on the Toyota Etios Cross, Fiat Avventura and Fiat Avventura Urban Cross.Â
The AMT variants for both petrol and diesel will be added in next five months. On the other hand, an electrified KUV will be introduced next year, and probably make an appearance at the 2018Â Delhi Auto Expo.
