Electric vehicles are turning out to be the future of cars globally and the trend has already been set in India by none other than Electric cars from Mahindra. Mahindra Electric has taken over the electric car market, lending it a new lease of life into mainstream car manufacturing with its latest launch of e2oPlus.

The e2oPlus is a compact hatchback and as is evident, runs only on electric power. The electricity is stored in the 72V lithium-ion battery pack that sits on the car floor and weighs a hefty 990kg. It takes nine hours for a full charge and delivers a range of 140kms with a capability to reach a top speed of 85kmph. It has a charge indicator just like the fuel gauge in traditional cars to tell exactly how much charge is remaining and the distance the e2oPlus can cover in the remaining charge. In case you run out of charge with a few more kilometres to go before your destination, you can unlock the reserve charge to go additional distance. It comes replete with regenerative braking – the system which allows you to harness the kinetic energy that is lost when braking to charge your batteries on the go.

And if you thought the e2oPlus being an electric car would not have bells and whistles, you are in for a surprise. The e2oPlus is a smart car. Several functions of the car can be accessed through an app in your smartphone. The app can remotely lock or unlock the car and start or stop charging when kept plugged in. The app also tells you the charging levels and you can also turn the air conditioning on or off remotely. It offers the luxuries of power windows, an in-car entertainment system with a 6.2-inch display screen and an electrically assisted power steering. It has ten on-board computers calculating vehicle vitals real-time to give you precise updates on your driving style, efficiency log and other information through the display screen.

Underneath the surface, the e2oPlus uses sports car technology. The chassis of the e2oPlus is a space-frame structure that is employed in racecars. It helps to keep the weight in check while ensuring proper rigidity of structure for occupant safety. The body-shell is made of ultra-light weight ABS that is largely scratch and dent proof. The e2oPlu gets projector headlamps that ensure visibility while consuming less electricity at the same time. The LED tail lamps are also a part of the energy saving package.

The e2oPlus is a complete car. It puts the general perception of electric cars being contraptions on four wheels out of the window, offering all the features and luxuries of your everyday cars. And at the same time, ensures there are absolutely zero emissions from the car as you put it to good use as your daily driver. The range of 140kms is good enough for any metro city in the country where the average trip distance for daily drivers certainly does not cross into three digits.
