Mahindra's two-door electric vehicle e2o was recently spotted testing in a four-door avatar in Bengaluru. This car might make its debut at the 2016 Auto Expo in February.
The camouflaged test mule sighted taking rounds carried over the same body style of the current two-door car. However, it gets an extended wheelbase to make more space for the rear occupants. The new four-door version also means it will make it easier for the ingress and egress of rear passengers. There might be some cosmetic changes to add to the appeal of the car.
The present e2o sold in the Indian market is powered by an electric motor that produces 26bhp of power and 54Nm of torque. This car is capable of doing about 100kms on a full charge. The new version is expected to be equipped with an enhanced battery and get a power bump, higher top speed and also a longer range.
It is not quite sure if this model is for the Indian market or export market. But if the four-door hatchback is exported, it will also get more safety equipment to meet the European safety standards. The fully electric e2o hatchback is a four-seater compact hatchback that offers zero emissions and takes up less space on the roads. At present, it doesn't have a good demand in our country as sales of electric vehicles haven't picked up yet. Hopefully, the initiatives like the incentives under the FAME scheme will make these cars more affordable and people will start considering these environment-friendly vehicles soon.
