Mahindra and Mahindra have announced their sales figures for April 2014 which do not show a development from the previous month's sales numbers. In fact, the number of vehicles sold in the country has gone down.
Domestic sales include 18,148 passenger cars and 11,677 commercial vehicles showing a 13 per cent and 19 per cent decline respectively. The company had sold 20,748 units of passenger cars and 14,414 commercial vehicles in April 2013. The overall domestic sales stood at 34,107 units in last month in comparison to 39,902 units sold in the same month in 2013. This accounts to a 15 per cent fall in sales in India.
Mahindra however managed to sell 2,167 vehicles overseas in April 2013 as against 1,530 cars exported in the corresponding month last year. This shows an impressive 42 per cent growth in exports. This makes the sales sum up to 36,274 units during April, 2014.
Pravin Shah, Chief Executive, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, “It is unfortunate that the auto industry has not seen an upturn over the last couple of months in spite of a reduction in excise duty. We do hope that post the general elections, sentiments improve leading to a better economic situation and hence increased demand. At Mahindra, we are happy with our exports performance for the month and we continue to be optimistic going forward and expect to witness a gradual upswing on the back of our product offerings and customer centric initiatives”.
Despite the low sales numbers, Mahindra has been making continuous efforts to keep their customer base satisfied. Expansion of their network of dealerships and workshops in urban as well as rural areas in the country has been their plan and the company has been working in that direction. We hope the situation changes soon with the launch of new products like the facelifted Scorpio and compact SUV S101.
