The Mahindra Thar has been one of the most successful off-roader in the country that had a functional four-wheel drive with real off-roading capabilities. First launched way back in 2010, the vehicle received a mid-life facelift in 2015. Along with Mahindra’s own design team, the Indian automaker will also rope-in design expertise from its acquisitions like SsangYong and Pininfarina.
The current generation Thar is available with a 2.5-litre diesel engine that comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox to generate 105bhp and 247Nm of torque. The vehicle is available in two wheel drive and four wheel drive options, where the all-wheel drive gets Borg Warner manual shift with low reduction gear. The car brags about the Drive by wire technology which helps for a quicker and better controlled throttle response. Reports indicate that there might be a new 1.5-litre petrol engine which might also be offered, though there are no confirmed reports on this yet.
Interior details for the next-gen Thar is not available for now. However, we believe that the new Thar will get better upholstery and features which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless mobile charging and memory seats. The new model might also get intelligent and assisted driving function in future. The technologically advance model will help Mahindra strengthen its foothold in the Indian market. Additional details about the vehicle will be known at a later date.
