Mahindra has announced that it will launch the Verito electric sedan next year. The Indian SUV major, via a press release, has said that it is investing Rs 150 crore on developing electric version of the Gio, Maxximo and the Verito sedan.
The company has already developed a prototype that was on display at the 2012 Auto Expo. The company is likely to use the same unit from the e2o but with modifications to cope with the heavier load. Commenting on the vehicle, Pawan Goenka, President (Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors), said "We will be using the electric vehicle technology to some of our existing products. We are almost ready with the electric Gio and Maxximo, while we have also developed a prototype for the electric Verito.” He added that the company had kept a fleet of 50 electric Maxximos ready and would be launched commercially after assessing the response to the e2o.
Commenting on the export of the e2o, he said M&M has got enquiries from Europe, mainly the Scandinavian countries, for e2o. In another 8-9 months’ time, we will start exporting it to Europe. We see the Northern Europe as a primary market for e2o."The company is expecting equal contribution in sales of e2o from both domestic and export markets, he added.
