The Mahindra compact SUV (S-101) has been spied in camouflage by the team at Autocar India. The Indian SUV major is currently developing a small car (C-101) and the small SUV which are expected to have common powertrains and platforms. The SUV will sit below the Quanto while the small car is expected to slot in below the Verito and its upcoming CS sibling.
The picture shows us that the car is still in the primary stages of testing and has high ground clearance as well as a raked rear windscreen to give it a sporty look. Despite the raked rear windscreen, it has a high roofline.
It is expected that Mahindra will keep the length of the SUV under four metres and power it with a 1-litre to 1.2-litre petrol engine. The diesel on the other hand is expected to be a new 1.1-litre three-cylinder derived from the XUV500’s mHawk engine.
Given, Mahindra’s penchant for fitting every available space in a vehicle with a seat, it is likely that this vehicle will be a seven seater but we doubt the usability of the third row. However, since it is more than two years away from seeing the light of day only time will tell.
