Mahindra has launched the Bolero Power Plus SUV in India, with prices starting at Rs 6.59 lakh (ex-showroom Navi Mumbai). The car now comes powered by an mHawk D70 engine and will be available across dealerships in three variants - SLE, SLX and ZLX.
The Bolero Power Plus SUV's exciting new feature is the 1.5 litre mHawk D70 diesel mill. This unit produces 70bhp of power and 195Nm of torque. According to the manufacturer this new powerplant is 13 per cent more powerful and five per cent more efficient than the present Bolero. It comes mated to the same five-speed manual gearbox. Fuel economy is rated at 16.5kmpl (ARAI-certified).
Cosmetically, there are a few changes, which hardly can be pointed out in the first look. But when compared with the existing Bolero, one can notice the reworked bumpers and new decals. And this is a sub four metre vehicle. Then the changes in the cabin include a new fabric and better cushioning for the seven seats. However, the dual tone interior has the same layout as the present Bolero. Thankfully, the other technology features are carried over, including the digital instrument cluster, a Driver Information System (DIS), a voice messaging system, engine immobilizer and the fuel-saving Micro Hybrid technology (ZLX variant).
Pravin Shah, President and Chief Executive (Automotive), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, “The Bolero has been India’s number one SUV for 10 years in a row from 2005-06 to 2015-16 and the all New Bolero Power+ is an evolution of this powerful brand. In our endeavour to enhance the product value proposition, we have introduced the New Bolero Power+ with the mhawkD70 engine delivering more power, more mileage and a peppier drive. I am sure that the New Bolero Power+, with its overall better value proposition, will heighten its appeal not only amongst its core customers but also excite more buyers.”
Mahindra has been bringing in small but significant changes in the Bolero ever since its launch in August 2000. The brand's constant endeavour in evolving the car by incorporating new features has helped them make the Bolero the number one selling SUV in India. The new Bolero, christened as the Bolero Power+, should help the carmaker better their sales numbers with the onset of the festive season.
