New Bolero Neo
The latest launch from Mahindra’s stables is the new Bolero Neo. The Bolero Neo picks up the mantle from the Bolero and the TUV300; combining classic SUV traits of the Bolero’s authentic tough design, go-anywhere ability and performance, with improvements made to the TUV300’s modern design elements, premium interiors, advanced features and great on-road dynamics. Both the Bolero Neo and Bolero will be available to buy - the Neo catering to the urban youth and the Bolero catering to the semi-urban and rural user or off-road enthusiasts. Let’s take a closer look at everything that makes the Bolero Neo the perfect authentic yet modern SUV for the young SUV enthusiast.
Authentic SUV design with modern touches
The Bolero Neo features an unmissable presence, which classic SUVs' makes it stand out among the sea of faux SUVs. At almost 4-metres long and 1.8-metres tall, the Bolero Neo towers over everything else on the road.
Highlights of the new front fascia exterior design highlights include the new X-shaped bumper, a redesigned Bolero six-slat grille which is more imposing than before, large wraparound headlights with bright LED DRLs, new fog lamp surrounds and safety-enhancing static bending lights.
At the side, the classic Bolero design elements like the beltline cladding that runs straight across the body connecting the door handles, black surround for the windows and the lower black cladding - including the ones over the wheel arches - can be seen. The Bolero Neo gets modern-looking 15-inch twin-spoke design alloy wheels with chunky tyres for a comfortable ride on the road and better grip when going off it.
The door-mounted spare wheel is a classic SUV design trait, both functional and also a style statement. The Bolero Neo gets one but with its own modern twist as the spare wheel cover follows the ‘X-theme’ seen on the front bumper along with bold Bolero branding.
The Bolero Neo is available in six bold colours - including the signature Rocky Beige you see in these pictures and the bright Highway Red colour which complements the SUV’s modern design.
Capabilities tested over the decades, perfected for modern SUV enthusiasts
The Mahindra Bolero Neo is underpinned by a ladder-frame chassis which is also used on the ultra-capable Scorpio and Thar. This third-generation chassis has been perfected over the years to take on any terrain and obstacle one can find and it is now complemented by a powerful engine and electronic assists which reduce the effort taken by a driver to drive in such conditions.
The Bolero Neo is powered by the advanced mHAWK100 BSVI turbo-diesel engine developing 73.5 kW (100BHP) of maximum power and, more importantly, 260Nm of peak torque from as low as 1750rpm. This engine sends power to the rear wheels via a slick-shifting 5-speed manual transmission. The iconic mHawk series of engines are known for their unmatched combination of power, driveability at all speeds and efficiency – and this mHAWK100 motor powering the Bolero Neo is no different. The addition of micro-hybrid tech, including an auto start/stop system and a dedicated Eco driving mode means you can save on money when all that performance is not needed.
The first-in-class MTT or Multi-Terrain Technology adds to the capability of the Bolero Neo off-road, unlike any other SUV in the segment. A system that requires no intervention from the driver, it can detect wheel slip at low speeds and send power to the wheel with better grip to get you out of slippery surfaces like mud, sand or muck - especially useful while taking the path other SUVs will not dare not tread over.
Tough outside, premium inside
The Mahindra Bolero Neo gets a beige, grey and black interior theme with premium dual-tone seat covers, silver and chrome trim, and many convenience- and comfort-enhancing features.
The dashboard is designed by Italian design maestros Pininfarina. From right to left, it features Mahindra’s signature chunky steering wheel with well-placed handgrips and multi-function buttons, a large 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system taking centre stage, controls for the powerful climate control system placed below it and a large glove compartment. Various functions of the Bolero Neo can be controlled via voice commands. Meanwhile, there are many helpful pre-recorded voice prompts that improve the usability, safety and premium feel of the Bolero Neo.
The captain seats up front are well-bolstered and feature individual inside armrests for a comfortable seating posture. A height-adjustable driver seat along with a tilt-adjustable steering wheel means the driver can find that right, comfortable and commanding driving posture easily. The floor-mounted centre console features convenient space for storing different items as well as controls for the power windows - a hark back to classic off-roaders.
A dedicated side-step means getting in and out of the Bolero Neo is easy - the dual-tone finish also helps it complement the SUV design. The second-row seats also get a centre armrest and individually adjustable headrest for the outer passengers. The soft door-mounted armrests also feature conveniently located buttons to control the power windows. An almost flat floor means the Bolero Neo is one of the few SUVs in its class which can seat five adults comfortably in the second row.
The space behind the second-row seats can easily hold 384-litres worth of luggage, but when you need to take more of your friends on an adventure - two side-facing jump seats can also be deployed to take them along. The second-row seats can be folded forward to increase the luggage space massively.
Premium features on the Bolero Neo include a twin-pod instrument cluster with an informative centre digital display, cruise control, height-adjustable driver seat, multi-function touchscreen display with six-speaker output, remote key entry with flip key, anti-glare inside mirror, electrically adjustable outside mirror, Bluesense app connect and more.
Tough and safe
The Mahindra Bolero Neo has the Mahindra hallmark strong build but also features intelligently designed passive and active technologies to enhance the safety of all occupants. A high-strength steel body shell sits over a chassis and interior body structures are bolstered to keep occupants safe in an accident. Dual airbags enhance this along with ISOFIX child seat anchor points in the second-row seats.
But an accident prevented is the best scenario and so the Bolero Neo is fitted with seatbelt reminders for the front occupants and automatic door locks. Powerful front disc brakes and rear drums are complemented by the standard fitment ABS and EBD along with a corner braking control system.
Great value
With prices ranging from Rs 8.48 lakh for the N4 variant and going up to Rs 9.99 lakh for the top-of-the-line N10 variant - the Bolero Neo offers a retro-modern SUV design, class-leading performance and capability, space for seven adults and modern features - at a very competitive price.
What’s more, Mahindra also promises a no-hassle, low-cost ownership experience with a standard three-year/1 lakh km warranty along with spare parts which are similar to the benchmark costs set by the standard Bolero.
With systems like the automatic start/stop system and the dedicated Eco mode for the capable mHawk100 engine, you are assured unmatched savings on fuel costs too!
