Rising levels of air pollution in the country has prompted Mahindra and Uber to enter into an agreement to deploy electric vehicles in India. The e2O Plus and the eVerito from Mahindra will be introduced in the Uber fleet by March 2018 and the pilot project will be limited to 100 units of the electric vehicle. Customers can book the ride via the Uber App and initially it will be available only in two cities – Delhi and Hyderabad.
Speaking about the partnership, Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra and Mahindra said, "As the pioneers of electric vehicles in the country, we would like to be at the forefront, leading this change toward smart and sustainable mobility solutions. Our collaboration with Uber is an important step to help accelerate the large scale adoption of electric vehicles on shared mobility platforms, and meet the nation's vision for EVs."
The Mahindra eVerito gets a 42bhp electric motor that powers the front wheels. The vehicle is capable of attaining a top speed of 86kmph while it runs 100kms on a full charge. You can opt for a one hour 45 minutes quick recharge, but if you want avail the full range, you will have to charge it for eight hours and 45 minutes. The electric motor in the e2o Plus is available in two tunes – 25bhp/70Nm and 40bhp/91Nm. Mahindra claims that the e2o Plus can travel a distance of 140kms on a full charge and can achieve a top speed of up to 85kmph.
