Indian utility vehicle giant Mahindra & Mahindra and Korean SUV maker Ssangyong are well on their way to take their partnership a step further. According to Economic Times, a senior executive of Mahindra has revealed that both the brands will launch a new global engine in the first quarter of 2015.
Back in 2012, Mahindra and Ssangyong made an announcement about working on three new engines which will power their future models in the next three years’ time.
In an update to the announcement, it has been revealed that Ssangyong will make use of first of the jointly developed engines in its X100 compact SUV which is scheduled to go on sale next year.
Pawan Goenka, president of Mahindra's automotive and farm equipment sectors, said, "There are future products that we will collaborate on where a common platform either of Mahindra or Ssangyong could potentially be used for both."
The collaboration, in all probability, will produce a total of six all-new engines including petrol and diesel units. Besides all-new power-train units, Mahindra is also expected to add two new compact SUVs and a commercial vehicle in 2015.
