Mahindra and its Korean subsidy Ssangyong have announced that they will jointly develop three engines platforms over the next three years. Sources say these platforms will be developed keeping in mind the Indian and South Korean markets. Mahindra will invest Rs 4000 crore in the project while Ssangyong will contribute additional Rs 1500 crore.
However, the Indian SUV major has not disclosed any other details like engine specifications and what kind of vehicles the mills are being developed for. We feel that these will be the very same engines that will power that will power the C-101 and S-101 front-wheel drive models that Mahindra is currently working on. Much like Nissan and Renault, it is likely that Ssangyong will sell re-badged version of the same cars.
Mahindra and Ssangyong are also currently working on a plan for joint global sourcing and usage of global networks for product sales.
