> Mahindra to supply BS-VI compliant petrol engines to help strengthen Ford’s petrol portfolio in India
> Mahindra and Ford to jointly develop connected vehicle solutions to be deployed across Mahindra and Ford products
Mahindra Group and Ford has announced two agreements which look to strengthen their strategic collaboration that was first announced in September 2017. The two definitive agreements throw light on powertrain sharing and connected car solutions.
Under the powertrain sharing agreement, Mahindra will develop and supply low-displacement petrol engines to Ford India for its current and future vehicles. These BS-VI compliant powertrains will help Ford extend and strengthen its existing offering of petrol engines (like the new three-cylinder TiVCT range).
Also, Mahindra and Ford will work together on the development of a telematics control unit. The tech will be used on a connected-vehicle solution that will eventually be deployed across both Mahindra and Ford vehicles.
Meanwhile, both companies are said to be making swift progress in terms of using each other’s strengths for product development for India (includes compact SUVs/EVs). Ford, with its ability to leverage the brand’s global reach/expertise, and Mahindra, with its successful scale of operations in India.
It will be interesting to see how this alliance will benefit car customers in the years to come. Stay tuned to CarWale for more information.
