It’s been a long and arduous journey, but Mahindra’s flagship SUV has finally arrived in the Indian market. It’s called the Alturas G4 and it’s here to compete in the sub Rs 50 lakhs full-size SUV segment. We have completely assessed it in our first drive review (click here to read) and found the Alturas G4 to be rather impressive, especially its exterior design. Now, let’s take a closer look at the top five exterior highlights.
Towering stance
The Alturas G4 is a full-on SUV with a lot of road presence. This is down to the 4.8m length and more importantly, the height. At 1.84m, it stands tall and towers above most hatchbacks and sedans. Like other ladder frame SUVs, the ground clearance is generous and adds to the towering stance and helps in going over bad roads with ease.
HID headlamps with DRLs
The double barrel HID headlamps are sleek and feature kinks at the inner end for that edgy appearance. Like in most premium cars, you also get daytime running lights which do not look overdone unlike some of Mahindra’s other products. Also, its worth noting that the 4x4 version gets HID lamps whereas the 4x2 version gets projector units.
18-inch razor-cut alloy wheels
The Alturas G4 gets 18-inch alloy wheels with razor-cut treatment for that posh look. However, the size is a touch too small. We feel 19-inchers could have gone a long way in improving the SUV’s stance. Both 4x4 and 4x2 versions get the same size and design for the wheels.
Imposing grille
The Alturas G4 has a well-balanced look all-around, especially at the front. This is down to the stylish headlamps and that large multi-slat grille. The latter features chrome inserts and a big Mahindra emblem right in the middle.
Bumper design
Like the rest of the design, the front and rear bumpers grab your attention but in the right way. Upfront, there is a wide chrome strip that runs across the bumper and enhances the wide stance. The same treatment has been given to the rear bumper which houses rear fog lamps and honey-comb style plastic insert.
