Mahindra will launch the new Alturas G4 in India tomorrow. The full-size SUV will be the new flagship from Mahindra in the country and is expected to be priced at around Rs 25-30 lakhs. It will be available across two trim levels – 4x2 and 4x4 – with one diesel engine option and four exterior colour options. We have driven the new Alturas G4 and you can read all about it over here.
First showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, the Alturas G4 is basically a rebadged version of the Ssangyong Rexton G4 sold internationally. The seven-seater looks brawny courtesy of its huge dimensions and gets ample amount of street presence. As a part of the rebadging exercise, Mahindra has only added its trademark toothed grille to the Rexton besides someapart from subtle exterior changes. The massive squared-off wheel arches are now shod with 18-inch alloy wheels. As a result of itsBased on ladder-on-frame architecture, the Alturas has high ground clearance as well.
The cabin of the Alturas is very upmarket and furnishedladen with good quality material all around. The quilted leather upholstery makes it look like a much more expensive car. The centre console gets an eight-inch system with all the connectivity features. Feature-wise, the SUV comes equipped with eight-way adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, dual zone climate control, 350-degree camera, ventilated seats, active rollover protection and most importantly nine airbags.
Under the hood, the only powertrain on offer is a 2.2-litre diesel producing 185bhp and 420Nm and mated to a Mercedes sourced seven-speed automatic transmission. The two variants mean it can be had either in 4x2 or 4x4 configuration.
When launched, the Alturas G4 will compete with the Rs 30 lakh SUV, according to Mahindra. ThisWhich means it will go up against the highly successful Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour. It will also have some stiff competition from the likes of upmarket SUVs like the Honda CR-V and Skoda Kodiaq. More details will be revealed soon, stay tuned to CarWale for Alturas G4 .
