After a long wait and much anticipation, Mahindra has launched the new Alturas G4 in India for an introductory price of Rs 26.95 lakhs (ex-showroom all-India). The Alturas G4 is a full-size SUV and comes as Mahindra’s new flagship offering. Mahindra is offering the Alturas in two trim levels – 4x2 and 4x4 – with one diesel engine option. We have driven the new Alturas G4 and you can read all about it over here.
The Mahindra-badged G4 Rexton was first showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi, early this year. Apart from the new nose - which now gets Mahindra’s toothed grille - and some subtle changes, the entire car has been carried over from the international version. So it retains its huge dimension along with the brawny road presence. The squared-off wheel arches gel well with the sharp body creases. The rear gets nicely design taillamps with sculpted bumpers and roof-spoiler. The Alturas rides on 18-inch alloy wheels.
On the inside, the Alturas looks very upmarket owing to the high-quality material used all around. The upright dashboard gets eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system while the quilted leather upholstery makes the cabin look more premium. The long feature list includes eight-way adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, dual zone climate control, 350-degree camera, TPMS, ventilated seats, ISOFIX, active rollover protection and most importantly nine airbags to name a few.
Powering then all-new Alturas G4 is a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Even though the engine has less capacity compared to its direct rivals (Endeavour’s 3.2-litre and Fortuner’s 2.8-litre) the output is on par with the competition at 185bhp and 420Nm. The transmission is a Mercedes-Benz sourced seven-speed torque converter. The SUV can be had either in 4x2 or 4x4 configuration.
The Mahindra Alturas G4 might have a tough competition from the segment leader Toyota Fortuner and the well-established Ford Endeavour. It will also be pitted against the likes of premium seven-seater SUVs like the Honda CR-V and Skoda Kodiaq. Mahindra has set up a separate high-end showroom with exclusive features to sell the all-new Alturas G4.
