The 2014 season of the Indian Rally Championship, earlier known as the Indian National rally Championship, will commence with its first round being the Mahindra Adventure Rally of Maharashtra. The ceremonial flag off takes place today. The Western India Sports Association organised rally will be flagged off today at 4.30 pm from the Nashik City Centre Mall.
IRC has been at the pinnacle of Indian motorsport for more than a decade and has been the testing ground for many talented drivers hoping to make it big in motorsport. As a part of the pre-event celebrations, a rally prepared Mahindra XUV 5OO has been on display at Nashik City Centre since last week. A few quiz games were played there and the winners from those quiz games would be accompanying the competitors in their rally cars after flag off.
The rally guides of Mahindra Adventure Rally of Maharashtra are available at City Centre near the rally car display and the detailed program of the event is given in the guides. The star studded line-up of competitors includes the Indian sensation and Asia-Pacific Rally Champion Gaurav Gill, 3-times APRC champion Karamjit Singh and stars like Vikram Mathias, Sunny Siddhu and Amitrajit Ghosh along with the local boy Aditya Dhiwar.
The competing cars’ line-up has the Super XUV – Mahindra’s Championship contender, the Volkswagen Polo R2, rally prepared 1.6L petrol VW Polo and the old war-horse – Maruti Baleno. There will also be a rally-spec Mitsubishi EVO participating.
The super special stage will be held tomorrow in the outskirts of Nashik while the special competitive stages will be held over the weekend in the Igatpuri-Ghoti-Bhandardara belt.
