Geely’s newly founded car brand, Lynk & Co, previewed a mid-sized, tech-laden SUV called the 01 in October last year. Following that, the Chinese carmaker took the wraps off their second product, the 03 sedan, at the 2017 Shanghai Motor Show, albeit in the concept guise. The sedan was spotted in Germany, earlier this month. The latest spy shots of the 03 come from Colorado, with a first glimpse of the interior too.
The new sedan seems to keep all the design elements from the 03 Sedan Concept, which is similar to the design language debuted in the 01 SUV. The new size of the three-box sedan seems slightly smaller than the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
The slat grille with the bonnet mounted headlamps are prominent features of the new Lynk & Co design and the new 03 can be seen sporting them. The door mounted mirrors are large and for the first time, we can spot the sunroof. The rear has a twin exhaust setup although the tail light design under the camouflage is not very evident. However, if the design on the 01 and the 03 Concept is anything to go by, the sedan will have an L-shaped LED infused tail light setup.
The new 03 Sedan is expected to be based on the same Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform. For the first time, the 03 was spotted hauling weight with a hook sticking out of the rear diffuser. This is an indication that the Chinese carmaker is indeed trying to make the 03 a global product.
The interior shots show the cabin carried forward from the 03 Concept. The 01 influence continues in the cabin with top-mounted air-vents, large infotainment screen, gear lever and dashboard, all scrounged from the 01 SUV. The 03 sedan will also have access to Volvo’s wide array of safety and driver’s assistance systems.
No powertrain details are available as yet, however, the new sedan is expected to be powered by a Volvo-derived 1.5-litre engine or a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit with anything between 180-240bhp. A plug-in hybrid powertrain is also on the cards.
Lynk & Co will initiate the production of 03 once the 01 SUV goes on sale in international markets of Europe and China. The lifetime warranty scheme offered with the 01 SUV shall also cover the 03 sedan. It will also benefit from all the connected features that the Chinese carmaker claims to have installed.
