India is the fastest growing market for luxury cars, especially the SUVs and that is the reason why most of the global players have their entire SUV portfolio in the country. A few of these existing cars have been around for a while and are due for an update while there are a few new-comers expected to grace us in 2017. So, here is a list of luxury SUVs that you can choose from in 2017.
1. Volvo XC90 R-Design
Volvo had promised us to bring the XC90 R-Design in 2016. It seems demonetisation has taken its toll and the launch has been pushed to 2017. The XC90 R-Design, a plush, aggressive version of the existing diesel XC90 might be the first luxury SUV launch of 2017.
2. Mercedes GLA facelift
The Mercedes CLA got updated in November, earlier this year and the next logical update from the A-Class family will be the GLA crossover SUV. The facelift is a mid-life upgrade with a few nips and tucks and is expected by mid-2017.
3. Audi SQ7
The Audi SQ7 is the most powerful SUV Audi has ever built and it is powered by a diesel engine with the first production electric turbocharger. While we were hoping for a 2016 launch, it seems the top-spec Q7 SUV will debut in 2017.
The world has had their eyes glued to the new Discovery when Land Rover announced the all-new car for 2017. The car has been unveiled globally and it should come to India immediately. But with the homologation not yet started, it should be end-2017 by the time it arrives.
5. Jeep Compass
The Compass is the newest Jeep to be launched across the globe and will the first modern Jeep to be built in India. This compact SUV is expected to defy the existing Jeep pricing and compete with the Tucsons and the Fortuners by end-2017.
The Audi Q3 and the Q5 have got their share of updates with e very model year. The new generation cars have been launched globally in 2016 and will come to India in 2017. The new Qs have a sharper design and will get the reworked EA189 series of diesel engines.
Mercedes-Benz has one of the biggest portfolios for any car manufacturer in India for the sheer expanse of their model range. It includes the uber-cool AMGs as well. With the GLE and the GLS SUVs arriving in 2016, we expect the 500+ bhp AMGs to arrive in 2017.
The Range Rover is the benchmark for luxury SUVs and the all-new Range Rover that arrived in 2014 pushed the benchmark higher. The 2017 facelift of the Range Rover has been already spotted testing globally and we expect the car to arrive by end-2017.
9. Volvo XC60 facelift
The all-new Volvo XC60 is in the making. It will be a completely new car but that will take a couple of years at least. IF you do not want to wait till then, the existing XC60 is going to be updated. It will get the signature Thor’s hammer headlamps and a few changes inside and is expected by end 2017.
10. Bentley Bentayga
Bentley built their first their SUV last year and when they brought it to India, the whole lot was sold even before they launched the car here. Well then, with the Bentayga now getting a diesel mill, Bentley will have to allot at least twice the number of cars for India this time.
11. Maserati Levante
Everyone is building SUVs and after Jaguar, Bentley and Lamborghini we have Maserati joining the chorus. The Levante, as everyone says, is the Giulia riding high. In that case, we cannot wait to lay our hands on it even if it means waiting till the end of 2017.
12. Mini Countryman
The all-new Mini Countryman broke cover earlier this year and will start selling with the MY 2017 of the SUV. Which means, the India arrival should be maximum by mid-2017. The new Countryman is sharper, angrier and of course bigger than the outgoing one.
13. Range Rover Evoque convertible
In this age of mix and match, the traditional car body styles have gone for a toss making way for some new ones. And the latest one to arrive is a convertible SUV. The drophead Evoque looks fancy and if you want to be seen arriving in style, you have to wait for this one.
