The Nissan Micra Active, a low cost version of the hatchback, has been spied testing outside Chennai by Indianautosblog. The car (codenamed G02A) is expected to target a wider range of buyers and will sell alongside the facelifted Micra that was launched for the Thai Market recently and is expected on our shores by the end of June.
The Micra Active is expected to get lower levels of insulation, redesigned tail lamp cluster as well as cut price interiors. Features wise, the Micra Active will get a locally assembled power steering system and no airbags in a bid to keep the costs down.
Under the hood, the Micra Active is first expected to be offered with only the 1.2-litre petrol mill producing 75bhp and 104Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front-wheels via a five –speed manual gearbox. This is most likely due to cost cutting measures and the fact that the diesel engine option is only offered on the XL and XV variants. it is also likely that Nissan may start offering ABS with top-end diesel variant.
However, given our ‘love’ for oil burners it is almost certain that a Micra Active diesel is on the cards and will make its debut a few months after the petrol variant, although this may feature a mill in a lower state of tune. It is also likely this may be a three-cylinder mill being developed for the Datsun range of cars.
