Expansion in India
Lotus has begun its innings in India with the launch of its first-ever showroom. Officially called the Lotus Centre, it was opened in Delhi on 16 January. This is the British automaker’s first-ever facility in India since it began operations over a year ago. The automaker will tread cautiously in 2025, however, from next year it is looking to expand to other major metro cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru as a part of its India plans. It has hinted that future expansion also includes facilities in other major tier-1 cities.
The automaker currently has three service centres in Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad, with plans to expand to more cities depending on the distribution of its customer base. It has not set any official sales target for India, choosing instead to take 2025 as a year of testing the waters in terms of being a bespoke manufacturer in India.
It also says that due to its small volumes, it is unaffected by the global slowdown in demand for EVs, and instead sees future potential in India as the local EV ecosystem takes shape. Simply put, the growth of the EV sphere in India will create demand across various segments, and Lotus aims to be there when big-budget buyers want something exclusive in an EV guise. Additionally, the company said that India will get an allotment of all its global models, both present and future, despite the relatively small market size.
Two new launches
Along with the opening of its first showroom, Lotus also launched the 2025 Emira sportscar and Emeya four-door electric GT.
2025 Emira
Lotus has introduced the refreshed 2025 Emira lineup in India, which now features the high-performance Emira Turbo SE. This latest variant accelerates from 0-100mph in just four seconds and reaches up to a top speed of 290mph. The 2025 Emira lineup includes the Emira Turbo, Emira Turbo SE, and the Emira V6.
Emeya GT
It is the first electric hyper-GT from Lotus and is a part of Lotus' plans to transform into an all-electric global luxury brand. It is available in six colours: Boreal Grey, Fireglow Orange, Solar Yellow, Akoya White, Stellar Black, and Kaimu Grey. According to Lotus, the Emeya retains its core values of power, precision, and dynamic handling. It includes advanced aerodynamic features such as an active front grille, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler, all contributing to riding and handling excellence. Its muscular wheel arches, a hallmark of Lotus design, pay homage to the brand's racing heritage from the 1950s and 1960s. Its motors produce 905bhp allowing it to accelerate from 0-100kmph in under 2.8 seconds. Furthermore, it has a rapid-charging capability with a 400kW DC charger that powers the battery from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in just 14 minutes.
