What the world has known by the codename 'Eagle' for so long has been unveiled: Lotus has revealed its latest sportscar at the London Motor Show, and christened it the 'Evora'.
The Evora is touted to be the most important car from Lotus since the Elise, over a decade ago. Not because of technology and the such: simply because this will be the first Lotus that will come in a 'one size fits all' package. 2000 units of the Evora will be manufactured annually on a new assembly line at the assembly plant in Hethel, England, and will be exported to markets all over the globe. The notorious cramped interiors of Lotus cars of yore has vanished as well - the Evora can seat two American men abreast in comfort (we think Lotus just alled the Americans, er, 'large') and it'll seat drivers upto 6'6" tall as well. Looks like NBA stars will still have to look to their Yukons and Escalades for their rides.
The Evora will have a 3.5l, 276bhp Toyota V6 to begin with, which will endow the 1350kg car with a 0-100kph time of less than 5 seconds. Also for the first time, the interiors are leather and aluminium, and an automatic gearbox is on its way - another nod to the Americans? The Evora will also spawn a convertible and lighter and more powerful versions, and eventually a hybrid and a bigger model that will take Lotus up the size ladder.
A Lotus that a person can live with is something new, and should definitely drive Lotus sales up - we're waiting for the trackday version!
