A locally manufactured version of the Audi A3 sedan has been launched in the Chinese market for 209,900 Yuan (Rs 20.36 lakh). It is now available with two petrol engine options and four variants. It is being manufactured at the FAW-Volkswagen plant in Guangzhou City.
The China made A3 is being offered in four variants - vogue , lifestyle, comfort and luxury. They have a feature list very similar to what is being offered with the A3 in the Indian market. However, the Chinese market gets one extra base and top-end variant as compared to India. Visually there are hardly any changes save for different wheels and China specific badging.
The engines are the 1.4-litre TFSI and 1.8-litre TFSI which have been tagged as 35TFSI and 40TFSI respectively. The engines produce 150bhp and 180bhp and are mated to a seven-speed DSG as standard. However, the Chinese market also gets the option of a five-speed manual for the 35TFSI engine.
The car was launched in China last year but was arriving through the CBU route in the 40 TFSI form.
