Jaguar Land Rover has commenced the CKD operations of its popular premium SUV, the Range Rover Evoque, for the Indian market. The locally assembled Range Rover Evoque will be priced at Rs 48.73 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) and is expected to go on sale in the first week of April.
The three locally assembled variants – Evoque Pure, Evoque Dynamic and the Evoque Prestige are all powered by the 2.2-litre four-cylinder SD4 engine, which is also used in the Freelander 2. The engine delivers 180bhp and 420Nm of torque through a nine-speed ZF automatic transmission. For now, Jaguar Land Rover will locally assemble only these three variants of the Range Rover Evoque at Tata’s facility in Pune while the top-end Evoque Dynamic Si4 Coupe will continue as a CBU.
Commenting on the commencement of local assembly, Mr Rohit Suri, president, Jaguar Land Rover India said, “I am pleased to announce the broadening of our locally manufactured portfolio, with the introduction of the Range Rover Evoque. It is already very popular with Indian customers and we will now offer this SUV at an even more competitive price point starting at INR 48.73 lakh, ex-showroom Mumbai (Pre-Octroi).”
The company’s additional investment in the Pune facility hints at the Range Rover Evoque’s rising demand in the Indian market, and the lower price tag will give them access to a wider audience of premium customers who are looking for a stylish and compact SUV.
