Edit: Tata Zest launched in India for an introductory price of Rs 4.64 lakh
Tata Motors is all set to launch the Zest compact sedan for the Indian market in the next few hours and we at CarWale are bringing you all the details live from the venue in Mumbai. The new compact sedan is making its global debut today.
The Zest is the first diesel sedan to be offered with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). It will also be the first to get the Revotron range of petrol engines. The petrol is a turbocharged 1.2-litre engine producing 88.8bhp and 140Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The diesel variant is powered by the 1.3-litre MultiJet engine churning out 88.8bhp and 200Nm mated to either a 5-Speed manual or a F-Tronic AMT gearbox. The AMT equipped Zest gets three modes - City, Eco, Sport which is another first in this segment.

The Zest is available in nine variants - four petrol and five diesel.
The petrol is available in four variants - XE, XM, XMS and XT.
The five diesel variants are the XE, XM, XMA, XMS and the XT.
The Zest diesel is available in two states of tune - 74bhp of power and 190Nm of torque and the 88.8bhp of power and 200Nm of torque.
The base diesel variant, XE, gets the 74bhp engine, whereas the other four variants get a more powerful 88.8bhp engine which also includes the AMT.
The petrol version has a higher ground clearance of 175mm in comparison to the 165mm of the diesel variants.
The Zest is available in six colour options - buzz blue, pristine white, platinum silver, sky grey, venetian red and dune beige.
The Zest gets alloy wheels as standard across all the variants.
It gets projector headlamps in the XM, XMA, XMS and XT variants. The DRLs with LED light guide rings are available only with the top-spec XT variant.

The company has focussed on product, technology and design for the past one year. The Zest is the product where all their work has come through.
The Zest has been developed through 11 centres in five countries with help of 6,000 engineers.
The Zest is the first product to use Tata's new design language.
And we are seeing an AV about the Zest.

These are the three basic lines that are intrinsic to the new Tata design.

AMT also gets Sports mode and a manual shift assist.
For the entertainment package the car comes with a Harman system with four speakers and four tweeters.
The entertainment system is standard across all variants except the XE.
The Tata Zest XMS gets a host of safety features including ABS and front seatbelts with pre-tensioner and load-limiter. There is a perimetric alarm system as well.

160 dealerships across the country will have the Zest by the end of this month. It comes with a 3 years or 1 lakh kilometres warranty or 3 years and 45,000 kilometres free maintenance and three years free roadside assistance 24X7.
The Zest XE has been launched at Rs 4.64 lakh.
The base diesel XE has been pegged at Rs 5.64 lakh.

The AMT equipped XMA and the top-end diesel variant ges the same sticker price of Rs 6.99 lakh.
The Zest can be booked, starting from today, for an amount of Rs 21,000.
