Having made its world debut in July last year, the Datsun GO has enjoyed a fair bit of interest since then. The launch, which is scheduled to get underway soon, is an important one as the GO is better known as Datsun’s comeback model after the brand shut shop in mid 1980s.
Designed and developed for emerging markets like India where majority of small car buyers opt for something which is affordable and practical above all else, the GO seems to fit the bill perfectly. The car is the first of the models to lead Datsun’s future lineup of well-engineered yet affordable entry-level cars.
The GO is powered by a 3-cylinder, 12 valve 1198cc engine producing 70bhp and 104Nm of torque. This is the same engine that Nissan puts in its small offering, the Micra. Datsun, however, has tweaked the engine for enhanced efficiency plus drivability and going by the ARAI certified fuel economy of 20.6 kmpl, the tweaks seem to have worked just fine.
With the official launch ceremony just minutes away, Datsun is all set to introduce the GO here in the Indian market. Meanwhile, you can browse through our comprehensive first drive review here.
