It’s an announcement we are sure many Lexus lovers will be dying to hear in the country. The premium brand’s competitors like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi have long since established their positions and their products in the country. Now, at the Auto Expo 2014, talks of a Lexus launch in India seemed to be gaining ground and we are back to speculating news that had earlier come out in 2012. However, no fixed date or period has been set.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) MD Naomi Ishii said, “One of my objectives is to bring Lexus to India. It’s just a matter of time for us, we think there is a strong potential for growth in the luxury car segment.”
If the MD’s statement is anything to go by then probably we will soon be seeing the Lexus in the Indian market. Last year, when the company was actually supposed to come to our country, they had to step back because of the rising duties in our country.
Previously in 2012 Yukitoshi Funo, Executive Vice President, Toyota Motor Corporation had said, “Lexus range and pricing will be disclosed as we get closer to the launch date. As per the initial plan, the cars will come in as a complete body-unit. Lexus being a premium brand, it will have separate dealerships. Funo further added, “Lexus is a different brand from Toyota. Having independent stores is our global policy.”
The company is also doing a market study to evaluate the possible launch of its 'GT86' two-door sports car in India.
