Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton took pole position at the Sepang circuit, Malaysian as rain delayed the proceedings by more than an hour. Sebastian Vettel managed to get his Red Bull on the front row as the wet conditions negated the speed advantage of the Mercedes powered cars. Nico Rosberg takes third position ahead of Fernando Alonso on P4 in the first of the Ferraris.
The third row is occupied by Daniel Riccardo on P5 and Kimi Raikkonen on P6. Sahara Force India driver, Nico Hulkenberg, took P7, while McLarens’ of Kevin Magnussen and Jenson Button were split by the Toro Rosso of Jean-Eric Vergne in P9. The only surprise was that neither of the Williams manages to get in to top 10, after showing strong pace in practice sessions on Friday and Saturday.
Wet conditions did pose a big challenge for all the teams, as juggled between intermediates and full-wet tyres through qualifiers. There was plenty of on track action and numerous drivers took a trip through the gravel trap. Daniil Kvyat in Toro Rosso ran into Ferrari of Red Bull at the start of the Q2 – the incident will be investigate by the stewards later today; fortunately both the driver managed to continue in the session after short visit to the pits. Pastor Maldonado in Williams and Adrian Sutil in Sauber were the two drivers that sit in the bottom six along with Marussia and Caterham.
Stay tuned to CarWale as we bring you all the action live from Sepang Circuit, Malaysia starting tomorrow at 13:30 hours IST.
