Latin NCAP gives 5-star rating to Toyota Fortuner

The Latin NCAP crash test has given out a five-star rating for the second generation Toyota Fortuner. The new Fortuner, based on the Hilux pick-up platform, is stated to perform even better in some biomechanical aspects. Last year, the Hilux pick-up had scored a maximum of five-star rating as it performed well in child and adult protection parameters.

In India, the new Toyota Fortuner will be launched next year. Currently, it is available in Australia, South Africa, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Argentina. The India-bound model will be powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine which will put out 177bhp of power. Toyota might also offer a 2.4-litre diesel engine option. The SUV will be offered in six-speed manual and automatic transmission options.

The new Toyota Fortuner which is available in the international market comes loaded with safety features like trailer sway control (TSC) reversing camera, downhill assist control, brake assist, ABS with EBD, seven SRS airbags, vehicle stability control, emergency stop signal and 3-point seat belts with emergency locking retractors (ELR).

The India-bound Fortuner will get features like push start and stop, keyless entry, ABS with EBD, touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, cruise control, multiple airbags, rain sensing wipers, leather seats and reverse parking camera. The SUV will compete against likes of the Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and the Hyundai Santa Fe. Though the official pricing is not out yet, we expect it to be priced between Rs 25 - Rs 30 lakh.
