The Land Rover Discovery Sport is going to be launched in India tomorrow. Based on a completely new platform, the Discovery Sport is the first member of the all-new Discovery hierarchy.
The new Discovery Sport ditches the Discovery's boxy design in favour of a curved and elegant shape, inspired by the Discovery Vision concept. The sleeker and stylish design aims to give it a more modern and sportier look, rather than the absolute rugged approach that the current Discovery takes. Like the new Range Rover, the Discovery Sport gets a layered headlamp and tail lamp structure, which look like expensive ornaments. Even inside, the car gets a classy design which makes it look like a truly upmarket SUV. It gets a versatile 5+2 seating arrangement, which boosts the practicality of the Discovery Sport.
The Discovery Sport is built on a revised version of the LR2-based steel body shell, with new multi-link rear suspension. In India, it will be offered with the 2.0-litre four-cylinder TD4 diesel engine, in two states of tune. The TD4 150PS engine produces 148bhp and 380Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The more powerful TD4 180PS on the other hand, puts out 178bhp and 430Nm of torque through a nine-speed automatic transmission, first seen in the Range Rover Evoque.
We expect the new Discovery Sport to be launched with a price tag in the range of Rs 55 lakh to Rs 75 lakh. It will compete with other SUVs like the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5.
