Land Rover India announced a new cut price variant of its Freelander 2 S SUV. The variant is named Business Edition and has been priced at Rs 37.63 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). JLR has stripped down a few comfort features on the standard model to bring down the price while leaving the mechanics untouched.
The engine powering the new entry level variant is the same on found on the standard Freelander 2 S; the 2.2-litre in-line four-cylinder diesel motor that makes 150PS power and 420Nm torque. The power is transmitted to all four wheels via the six-speed automatic transmission found across the Freelander range.
What the Business Edition gives up is an array of convenience features like the panoramic sunroof and puddle lights on front doors. The SUV also gives up the rear camera, electric seat adjustment of the rear and arm rests for the front seat. The infotainment display unit has also been replaced from a 7-inch screen to a smaller 4.2-inch display unit. The standard 11 speaker music system gives way for a more basic six-speaker unit.
This slender lack in luxury on the Business Edition means that probable customers will save over Rs 2 lakh as compared to the standard Freelander S 2. Land Rover seems to be following Audi’s footsteps in introducing cut price models that will cater to the increasing demand for SUVs in the Indian market across all price brackets.
