Land Rover unveiled the facelifted version of the Freelander 2 in August and this most basic SUV in their range is on sale in many global markets. The changes to the Freelander 2 make it look more up-to-date, giving it a better chance against its German rivals. The facelift model was expected in India sooner than later and now JLR’s official twitter account has confirmed to Goaonwheels that it will be available starting April.
The Freelander 2 is the entry-level model in the Land Rover range, with company concentrating mainly on the utility than looks. JLR has hence concentrated on the looks and comforts in this facelift. On the looks department, the new model now gets LED headlamps with daytime running lamps, three new colour options, 17-inch alloy-wheels and LED tail lamp console.
Inside as well there are few additions, most important being the refreshed center console and switches on the Terrain Response dial. It also gets a new five-inch display that shows additional information like gear position, fuel, temperature readout etc. The features list now includes Passive Start system and Meridian audio system with choice of 380W and 825W outputs.
There is no change in engine lineup of the facelift. In India we will continue to get 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine in two states of tunes – 150bhp / 420Nm and 190bhp / 420Nm. Both are mated to automatic gearbox delivering power through Terrain Response all-wheel-drive system. The Freelander 2 is the only Land Rover model to be assembled in India, so we expect the price hike of the facelift to be minimal, unlike the jump in prices of all-new Range Rover.
