    Land Rover Discovery variants explained

    Bookings for the fifth generation Land Rover Discovery has commenced in India and will go on sale this November. The 2017 Discovery is available in five variants – S, SE, HSE, HSE Luxury and First Edition. All the variants are available in petrol and diesel engine options. The 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine generates 335bhp of power and 450Nm of torque, while the diesel version gets a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine that generates 254bhp and 600Nm of torque.

    The line-up begins with the base S variant, which is available in a five seat configuration as standard. The standard feature list on the exterior includes heated door mirrors, halogen headlamps and 19-inch five split-spoke 'Style 5021' wheel. The vehicle gets manually adjustable steering column, 2-zone manual climate control, eight-inch touchscreen and Land Rover sound system with six-speakers. The base variant also gets Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS), Gradient Acceleration Control (GAC), Hill Launch Assist and Electronic Traction Control (ETC). As for safety, the vehicle gets intrusion sensor, perimetric alarm, front and side curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, emergency brake assist, cornering brake control and electronic parking brake. Along with hill descent control with off-road ABS, the vehicle also gets dynamic stability control (DSC), roll stability control (RSC) and rollover deployment of restraints.

    Customers opting for driver assist pack in the S variant will get park assist and lane keep assist and lane departure warning. Moreover, Land Rover also offers optional equipment like – electronic air suspension, silver/black roof rails, rain sensing windscreen wipers, infrared reflective windscreen and 20-inch alloys in five split-spoke and 10 split-spoke alloy options. Customers can also opt for seven-seat configuration, premium carpet mats, adaptive cruise control with queue assist, park assist, front and rear parking aid with visual display, rear view camera and surround camera system. The optional list also includes 2-Zone automatic climate control, powered tailgate, Land Rover Enhanced Sound System with 10 speakers, navigation system and in-control apps. The petrol version is priced at Rs 68.05 lakh, while the diesel version is offered at Rs 78.37 lakh (Ex-showroom, All India).

    The SE variant carries forth most of the features from the base S variant. In addition to the existing ones, the SE variant gets twin-speed transfer box, electronic air suspension, rain sensing windscreen wipers, power folding heating mirrors, LED headlights with LED Signature. Inside, it also gets leather front seats, gloss black finisher, Land Rover Enhanced Sound System with 10 speakers, navigation system, auto-dimming interior rear view mirror and interior mood lighting – door signature. The vehicle also gets 2-zone automatic climate control as standard. The optional list also includes electronic sunroof, fixed panoramic sunroof, adaptive LED headlights, signature hi-line tail lights and auto high beam assist. The list further includes keyless entry, activity key and gesture tailgate. The SE variant also gets an optional head up display and All Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) as part of the driver assist pack. The petrol SE is priced at Rs 71.15 lakh and the diesel version is priced at Rs 85.30 lakh (Ex-showroom, All India).

    Moving up one level higher, the HSE version in addition to existing features in lower variants, it additionally gets auto high beam assist, signature hi-line tail light, front seat with memory function, wood finish interior and keyless entry as standard equipment. The variant also gets electrically adjustable steering column, front cupholder with cover, 3-zone climate control and a powered tailgate. The HSE version gets Meridian Sound System with ten speakers and a 10-inch touchscreen system. The HSE variant in petrol is priced at Rs 74.23 lakh, while the diesel version is priced at Rs 89.54 lakh (Ex-showroom, All India).

    The second to top HSE Luxury variant gets electric sunroof, infrared reflective windscreen, surround camera system, powered inner tailgate and surround camera system with 14 speakers in addition to rest of the features in the lower variants. The variant also gets premium carpet mats and extended leather. As for optional features, customers can opt for 8-inch rear seat entertainment, four-zone climate control and heated steering wheel. Customers opting for driver assist pack will get driver condition monitor and lane keep assist and lane departure warning. Features like climate front seats and powered third row seat is also optional. The HSE Luxury in petrol is available for Rs 78.91 lakh while the diesel variant is priced at Rs 95.47 lakh (Ex-showroom, All India).

    The top spec First Edition is the only one to be offer seven-seat configuration as standard. The variant gets almost all the premium features as standard except for gloss black finish on the 21-inch 10 spit-spoke wheel. The petrol version is priced at Rs 84.43 lakh while the diesel is available for Rs 1.03 crore (Ex-showroom, All India).   

    The new Land Rover Discovery offers a wide range of customisation options to customers, which might turn out to be a bit confusing for most of the buyers. Customers who would not want to worry about choosing too many features and are happy with a moderate array of features can opt for the HSE variant. On the other hand, those look forward to a fully loaded version and does not want to be bothered with decision making over the equipment list, can opt for the top-spec First Edition.
