Hot on the heels of starting the production of the Land Rover Discovery Sport in India, the new SUV was spotted on test undisguised in Navi Mumbai recently.
The Discovery Sport is underpinned by a lighter platform, sports the company's latest design philosophy and comes loaded with many features. Taking cues from the success of the Range Rover Evoque, the new entry-level SUV sports a similar fascia and even tail lamp design. While the new SUV is expected to replace the Freelander 2 in the long run, both will be sold alongside at least in the initial days.
The new SUV will be offered in the top HSE-spec and employ more efficient engines. The two engine options include a TD4 150PS motor and a TD4 180PS mill. The former will churn out 148bhp of power and come mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the latter TD4 powerplant will deliver 178bhp of power and come mated to either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The new Land Rover Discovery Sport is expected to be launched for the Indian market in a couple of months. With the manufacturer starting the local assembly of the SUV in our country, Land Rover should be able to price the product competitively.
