Jaguar Land Rover has started production of the Discovery Sport in India. The new SUV is expected to be launched for the Indian market in a couple of months.
The new Discovery Sport SUV has improved a lot in comparison to its predecessor. The car is underpinned by a lighter platform, employs the latest design philosophy and gets several new features. Another major highlight is that it is propelled by more efficient engines.
Initially, the Discovery Sport will be available only in the top HSE-spec. At first, the car is expected to be powered by the 2.2-litre diesel mill, which will later be replaced by the Ingenium diesel engine. And like the earlier engine, the new Ingenium diesel powerplants will also be offered in two states of tune. The TD4 150PS motor will churn out 148bhp of power and will come mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The other TD4 180PS mill will churn out 178bhp of power and will come mated to either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Now that the manufacturer has started local assembly of the SUV in our country, we can expect a very attractive price for the CKD product. Reports suggest that the new Discovery Sport will replace the likes of Freelander 2.
