According to a recent report by Autocar India, Land Rover is expected to launch the new Discovery Sport in India by August 2015. The luxury mid-size SUV will be locally assembled via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route at Land Rover’s Pune facility before its official arrival.
The India-bound Discovery Sport will reportedly be powered by a 2.2-litre four cylinder diesel engine in two states of tune – 187bhp and 147bhp. Both these versions will be equipped with a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
Furthermore, the Indian version could be offered only in the top-spec HSE trim which means it will come with all the latest gizmos from Land Rover including the brand’s new InControl touchscreen infotainment system. Other features will include leather seats with electric adjustment, a panoramic roof, xenon headlights, dual-zone climate control and lots more.
Design wise, the Discovery Sport echoes the Range Rover Evoque, thanks to its twin-slat grille, chunky front bumper, LED fog lamps and a stylish pair of headlights and taillights. Inside, the cabin features high-quality materials and a vertical centre console layout to reflect the design of the exterior, while the core Discovery value of practicality is evident everywhere. A host of innovations have allowed Discovery Sport to have the versatility of a 5+2 seating. Thanks to a new multi-link rear axle, Land Rover has managed to offer ample cabin space even behind the second row.
Globally, the Discovery Sport will go on sale soon alongside the existing seven-seater Discovery in over 170 markets worldwide. Here in the Indian market, this new vehicle will be sold as a replacement for the Freelander when it arrives later this year.
